Remote Sensing

Overview

Where cutting-edge technology meets precision in data acquisition. Using Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) technology to produce point cloud datasets for modeling, planning, and design purposes. Point clouds are a collection of many single spatial measurements combined into a dataset representing a whole. The colorization of a single point within a point cloud represents a 3D model.

Techniques

Photogrammetry

Photogrammetry uses individual, overlapping, high-resolution photographs to generate detailed 3D point clouds. This technology allows for large-scale data collection in a short period of time.

LiDAR

Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) technology with terrestrial laser scanning which utilizes LiDAR (light detection and ranging) technology and techniques to collect tens of thousands of individual points per second. LiDAR technology provides precise measurements through vegetation to the ground surface. We use a ROCK R3 Pro LiDAR system. This is a laser class 1 dual return system with a collection rate of 640,000 points per second and a range accuracy of 2cm (or 0.05ft). The system also has an attached 26-megapixel camera that allows for simultaneous LiDAR and photogrammetry data collection.

Sonar

Bathymetry is the underwater equivalent of a topography survey. Stahly provides shallow water bathymetry using sonar. Collecting elevation and water depth information simultaneously allows us to analyze the entire water column, even in near-shore and riverine environments, and provide detailed data for engineering design and environmental monitoring.

3D Scanner

3D scanning is the process of capturing the shape and size of objects using laser technology. In land surveying, 3D scanners create detailed models of buildings, bridges, and other man-made structures.
