Topographic Surveys

Leading Experts in Topographic Surveys

A topographic survey represents real-world, 3D property characteristics; they comprise site data and elevation points (spot elevations) on a portion of land. It presents them as contour lines on a drawing to show the surface’s shape, configuration, and relief. A contour line represents the heights of the land. A topographic survey collects vertical (and horizontal) information on the natural and improved (man-made) features of the property, noting elevations on each element.

What it's used for

The survey shows site improvements’ location, size, and height and gradual elevation changes(typically in one or two-foot contour intervals). Topographic surveys typically show elevations and grading features for design and site planning for homeowners, architects, engineers, builders, contractors, and other professionals. A comprehensive boundary and topographic survey can be the most important aspect of starting the design of a new project.

Stahly’s approach to preparing a comprehensive boundary and topographic survey is based on an overall design perspective. Having a clear understanding of project scope and design goals, we ensure all pertinent site features are mapped relative to the boundary lines to assist with site planning and design. We tailor proposals to fit the project-specific needs and scope criteria and requirements as defined by the design team.
