Town of Winifred

The Town of Winifred project required a comprehensive topographic survey of municipal streets, utilities, and adjacent parcels to support forthcoming infrastructure design efforts. We first established GNSS control points tied to Montana State Plane coordinates by placing markers throughout the site. With control in place, our UAV team conducted flights covering the entire town, capturing overlapping aerial imagery and lidar data over residential neighborhoods, public right-of-ways, and open lots. Simultaneously, survey crews used total stations and GNSS receivers to perform spot checks on essential features—manholes, valve boxes, curb inverts, and building corners—to verify the elevation and horizontal accuracy of the remote-sensing data. Upon returning to the office, we processed the lidar point clouds to remove noise, merged them with photogrammetric point clouds derived from aerial imagery, and integrated the ground check data during quality assurance to ensure that elevations aligned within acceptable limits.
