Ivan Ulberg, PE

Ivan Ulberg, PE, is a licensed civil engineer with more than 34 years of experience in traffic engineering, transportation planning, and roadway safety. After leading the Montana Department of Transportation’s (MDT) Traffic Design Engineering Section for much of his career, Ivan joined Stahly Engineering & Associates, bringing extensive knowledge of MDT standards, policies, and project delivery.

His expertise spans traffic operations, safety analysis, access management, traffic impact studies, roundabout planning and design, signing and striping, geometric design, complete streets, active transportation, and multimodal transportation planning. Ivan is widely recognized for his expertise in roundabout planning, design, and operations, helping communities and agencies develop safe, efficient transportation solutions.

A respected leader in the transportation industry, Ivan has contributed to the development of national and state transportation standards through his involvement with the National Committee on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (NCUTCD) and participation in NACTO’s Designing Cities Conference. His knowledge of MUTCD, PROWAG, and NACTO guidance has also helped shape MDT’s Traffic Design Manual, Access Management Manual, and Transit Stop Design and Location Guidelines.
