Construction staking is the critical link between design and construction, providing precise horizontal and vertical control to guide the physical layout of proposed improvements. Using approved engineering plans and survey control data, we calculate exact field positions and mark them on-site for contractors to follow during development.

Our construction layout services cover all major site elements, including:

  • Building corners and foundation outlines
  • Roadways, curbs, and sidewalks
  • Utility trenches and structures
  • Grading and drainage features
  • Site amenities, signage, and lighting

Each stake includes essential information, offsets, elevations, or alignment references, and we provide staking exhibits when needed to enhance clarity for the field team and ensure coordination with engineers, superintendents, and inspectors.

Following construction, as-built surveys are used to document what was actually built in the field, comparing real-world conditions to the approved design. This is especially important for verifying underground utilities, stormwater systems, and any element requiring agency or engineering certification. Collected data is transposed directly onto plan sets (often in redline format), showing true locations, inverts, slopes, and elevations for engineering review and municipal acceptance.

Together, construction staking and as-built surveying ensure that construction proceeds with accuracy, that compliance is verifiable, and that final records reflect what’s truly in the ground. Our team combines field precision with clear documentation, keeping your project moving forward with confidence.

The contractor said, “It’s off by an inch.” The surveyor replied, “You’re welcome—it was off by a foot before.”
