Boundary Surveys

A boundary survey determines the exact extents of a deeded parcel based on the bearings and distances described in its legal description. This process establishes the parcel’s physical limits on the ground and is commonly required for property transactions, construction, or resolving boundary disputes.

At Stahly Engineering, our field crews establish boundary corners by setting permanent markers, typically 2-foot lengths of rebar driven flush with the surface and capped with a colored plastic or aluminum disk embossed with the Professional Land Surveyor’s license number. If existing monumentation is found, we locate and verify it, documenting those positions on the final survey.

Survey data is compiled into a Certificate of Survey (COS), which graphically represents the parcel boundary along with relevant improvements or encroachments, such as fences, occupation lines, or structures intersecting or approaching the boundary.

The COS is submitted to the appropriate County for review and, upon approval, is recorded with the County Clerk & Recorder’s Office to become part of the public record.

Boundary surveys ensure legal clarity, help prevent encroachments, and provide a reliable framework for future land use or development.
